electric mirrors

Post by OLD ONE »

OK... Who is the expert on electric mirrors??? Can find nothing on Wiki to help. :(
Just had to change my driving position, so have to re adjust mirrors, not working..They were working OK a couple of weeks ago.
If I put my head through the window, opening it first, :idea (before any comments) and operate the mirror switch I can hear the mechanism clicking, but nothing is moving..Any input or comments welcome.

Circuit diagram here. http://www.pbase.com/tonytech/image/84681016

I'm no expert, but try giving the mirror a poke, it might just be stuck.
I think each mirror has a clutch, controlled by the position of the switch (horizontal or vertical)
I think the both mirror motors will run, but only move the mirror when the clutch is engaged.

Sometimes the clutches stick and sometimes the motor/gears stick. Especially in cold weather .

OK Titus. How do we go about freeing them. At the moment the sun is rather warm so I don't think it down to the cold weather. Is there any way to remove the glass so as to inspect the innards??

Glass is easy to remove.
Squint down between the mirror body and glass and you'll see a tab (there's one on each, they're linked).
If the tab is up push it down and Vicky verky.

The glass can then be pulled out with your finger tips, it might be stuck to an adhesive pad but it will come out.

Then give everything a good coat of looking and clean out.
I used WD40 (other flavours are available).

Think I may have found problem...Just partly released the door card so that I could get to the back of the mirror switch and connector. Held the connector hard in to switch, every thing working, released, not working, squeezed, working. So must be something in the switch or connector.
Will check things later as now Sun gone in and getting to cold.
Thanks all for iinput

Pull the switch out and clean up the contacts on the switch and plug.
