20 or 25 amp fuse?

Post by Reimotim »

Hi can anyone tell me...

Should fuse 13 wiper/blower be a 20 or 25 amp fuse?

Haynes seems to suggest a 25amp, but then the old one appeared to be a 20amp. :?

Cheers!

I have just looked myself and it should probably be a 20amp fuse for yours as the earlier ones don't have thirteen fuses to start with :oops

It was my error because you said it was the wiper/blower fuse like the one on mine, but yours has separate fuses for those items which is a much better arrangement

Strangely....when the manufacturers changed from old style ceramic continental 'Bullet' style fuses to the new 'Blade' replacements they didn't follow the exact same rating protocols.
So on vehicles like the T25 that had EARLY/LATE fuse boxes that used these two different fuse types, the fuse ratings for the SAME consumer are often slightly different.

Continental 'Bullet' type ratings: 5, 8, 16, 25
Newer 'Blade' ratings: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 7.5, 10, 15, 20, 25, 30, & 40

As a side note* the blade fuse/fuse box design is far less troublesome as the electrical contact did not rely on the spring pressure from it's contacts. However, VW along with many other manufacturers did suffer problems with fuse box distorsion (heat and age related when the layers of the fuse box seperate).
