Can I use this carb on my van?
Been given this Pierburg 2E carb. I believe it's from a golf?? Would it fit my van? I think a few things will need removing/modifying maybe? But is it basically the same? Sorry if this a dumb question

Autohauls Dolby told me the emulsifying jet is broken??? Also the wax stat has gone from over heating?? Said the current carb is beyond economic repair and to look out for another. Basically the engine has a high idle when hot and been told this will fix it.

Re: Can I use this carb on my van?
The jetting will be wrong obviously
The air metering jets a a concern as they are an interferance fit.
I might be able to help with the carb or parts for it
Wax stat?

Re: Can I use this carb on my van?
The high idle may be many things and these would need investigation first before junking the carb

Wax stat yeah. Apparently lol. So the 2E carb is a no go then? Ive fitted a carb service kit from Brickwerks which didn't help so taken it to autohauls where he reduced the revs a little but came up with above diagnosis.

Re: Can I use this carb on my van?
OK lets first examine what the emulsifier does..
Emulsion tubes control the metered fuel and air introduced into the Carburetor. When air enters the emulsion tube through the air jet and fuel enters through the the main fuel jet this condition emulsifies the fuel delivered into the carburetor. The emulsion tube has a series of small holes from top to bottom which regulate the fuel mixture. These holes allow air and fuel to enter the main circuit and emulsify fuel. Low speed engine conditions or engines at idle do not require use of the emulsion tube or the main circuit. As engine speed increases the fuel level in the float bowl drops uncovering these holes and allowing air from the air jets to enter the main circuit resulting in a lean mixture. As the engine speed increases the fuel level in the float bowl continues to drop. This uncovers even more of the holes in the emulsion tube, which makes the air jet have a greater effect on the low to high rpm fuel delivery mixture.
I rather think your problem lies elswhere.
such as the fast idle cam not fully returning to it's hot position.. and various other causes...

Re: Can I use this carb on my van?
Thanks for the explanation. Where do you suggest I start with this problem? The fast idle cam? Is it something a amateur can do or expert job?

Re: Can I use this carb on my van?
Would this be something Gasure can sort when it goes in for LPG?

Re: Can I use this carb on my van?
Almost certainly. Steve knows all about the pierburg, and your idle will need sorting before gassing anyway.Transporter Porter wrote:Would this be something Gasure can sort when it goes in for LPG?
The Golf 2e carb is different in many ways, suffice to say it's not worth the hassle converting it to make it fit IMHO, especially as you'll soon be running on LPG most/all of the time anyway. Your existing carb should be good enough for that, as it effectively does nothing but act as a throttle butterfly (well, two butterflies, and a choke, for the pedants ).

Yes Steve will sort it and he has access to spares should it need any thing.
Just inform him of the problem

Re: Can I use this carb on my van?
I am VERY familiar with that carb Having owned (and still do) various carb'd Sciroccos I have had to learn it !!!
They are renowned for being one of the most complicated and therefore unreliable carbs around. When working correctly however they are VERY good. The 4 point unit and 2 solenoids are controlled by a relay "looking", but in fact a complex circuit, on the main relay panel
I mention all this because if that carb is sitting doing nothing in your garage, get it on ebay as the Golf / Scirocco lads are always on the lookout for them

Re: Can I use this carb on my van?
Thank you all for the information and help. I will get in contact with Steve at Gasure to sort the idle out. Do you think he'll be able to do it the same day as the LPG? Bit far to travel from Hope Valley with the family in tow. Already got a day at Chester Zoo planned
