How to remove steering lock housing and replace ignition

Post by ian72 »

Hi there
Don't remember introducing myself so hello folks, I'm hoping someone can answer this easily enough.
I'm trying to replace the nylon ignition switch on the steering column and having problems removing all the bits.
As you can telL, I ain't no mechanic but have followed the Haynes manual as best I could till I got stuck.
I have removed steering wheel and indicator switches and am stuck getting the steering lock barrel off. ive removed the Allen key bolt off the steering lock barrel, but it ain't budging. Does it need a swift kick or am I missing something? Hopefully the pic should help explain what I mean.
The nylon ignition I'm replacing is on the dash...

Thanks a lot
Ian

It should explain why you're struggling.

Ian.....you need to insert your ignition key and turn it to retract the steering lock paw...then the whole lot will tap upwards and give you access to the single pozi screw holding the ignition switch from underneath.

Cheers, that did it. Needed a bit of a thump to slide it off.
