Window washer jets
Hi all.
The van failed his MOT the other day. One of the failures was that one of the jets gave insufficient water onto the windscreen. I've had a good look on the wiki and in the manual and can't find any mention of where the pump is. I've also had a quick look behind the dash to try and trace the water pipes but I'm struggling a bit here.
Has anyone had these out before and if so what did you do ?
The near side jet works fine it's just the off side.
Any tips would be very welcome.
Many thanks.

Re: Window washer jets
The bottle and pump are under the cab floor. Mines a LHD and it is on the driver's side, maybe the opposite for RHD, I'm not sure.
The best way I found to clear them is to remove the pipe from the pump and then attach a compressor, (12v car tyre/beachball one is fine).
switch the compressor on, then use an old guitar string or similar to poke the jet.
Be warned, you are likely to get a face full of grit and gunk!
Hope that helps!

Re: Window washer jets
Before doing anything more, stick a pin in the jet and wiggle it around. If that doesn't work buy a repacement jet from JK - dirt cheap, pull the old one out of the hole disconnect from the pipe operate the washer jet to clear any gunk, connect the new jet. Operate the washers again and it should work ok. If it does just push the new jet into place. Simples.

Re: Window washer jets
A single strand of wire out of a wire brush is sufficienty rigid and thin enough to poke through the hole. Then back blow with a blow off jet / compressed air.
The fact that one jet works fine means there is unlikely to be an issue with the pump itself.

WAIT!
If you let go of the tube and it falls down behind the panel... it's a right pain to get it back

Kev's is right,
You don't want to lose that tube inside the panel, otherwise that's gonna be a dash-out job!

Re: Window washer jets
and with respect dont fit pattern jets , buy vw, they are only a couple of quid more , i have tried most and returned them as they are made from a very hard plastic and the tangs do not like folding in to insert, the pipe to the jet on the os is often clamped as well as being fed throug a hole on the wiper mount brkt, will dig out a picky of kevs as i showed it with the panal off

Re: Window washer jets
first pick shows it coming up from the pump through the lower member and behind the wiper motor, here there is a T piece feeding each jet

here you can see it was passing through the oval hole in the bracket to the ns jet

most ive done have this arrangement
and here you will see its secured with a clip

enjoy
heck didnt realise how long that thread was

Re: Window washer jets
Thanks for everyone's help with this.
In the end I managed to free the jet from the bodywork not easy with fat thumbs. I had to cut the pipe off of it cause I didn't want to pull the pipe through the hole too much.
A quick wiggle with a pin and a good blow down the pipe towards the pump and all is A OK again.
Thanks again for all your help and time.
Best regards.
Andy.
