Re: Sump plug
Sorry to disappoint, but no I haven't left behind a no. 10 gauge surgical scalpel!!!! There is the tiny tab from a helicoil floating about in the sump but this doesn't concern me to be honest. I just like to examine the 'debris' left on the magnet when doing oil changes. Simples really!

Re: Sump plug
Kev, unfortunately, we in this house have no choice but to examine our deposits due to our bathroom suite being 'Duravit' which is a German company. Apparently, our Germanic friends do like to monitor their health by the afore mentioned method. The design of the pan means that there is a flat portion beneath ones body exit which acts as a shelf before it is flushed away. Lesson of the evening, what appears to be a stunning design by a great manufacturere may have additional benefits, weather you care for them or not!

Re: Sump plug
get you engine oil blistering hot, by going on a jolly trip, once home, undo the plug and dump the hot oil into an old oil can
then give it a stir with a strong magnet.
hope this helps as I'm not sure your quest will be successful

Re: Sump plug
Sounds like a plan as it has nearly done 1000 miles since i last changed the oil (just after I got the van) and I'm going to give it a decent journey to get it hot and possibly flush out any old deposits before refreshing the oil again. Europarts happened to have a 20l plastic container of the recommended lube so i'm planning on keeping it changed pretty regulary due to it being one of the easiest maintenance jobs to do. The reason I wanted a magnetic plug rather than examining the oil is because there is about 1mm or 2mm of helicoil protruding into the sump area and this may cause a 'well' that holds back some of the heavier oil/particles whereas the magnetic plug ought to catch them whilst 'sloshing' . We'll have to see.

Re: Sump plug
My van had a helicoil fitted when I bought it, but that is only a temporary fix. My garage cut a larger hole in the sump and fitted a larger sump plug. No more drips! Always better than a helicoil. Check the wiki, I think there may be something there on this topic. Also contact brickwerks. I think that they may be able to help. If I remember right I bought the replacement sump plug from Citroen.
