GPS Tracker - which battery to fit to and where?

Post by MattBW »

I have a GPS tracker unit to fit and I am trying to decide whether to fit it to the main battery or the leisure battery... I am not very experienced with automotive electrics and wasn't sure the best approach.

It's a TK103 style device, has cut off options, horn, panic switch etc. Works a treat and has a back up battery of its own. No idea though on the power draw though, and don't really want my van not starting because it was on the van battery.

How have you all fitted yours?

I vote on the leisure battery. I think it is not obvious that the van has a leisure battery or a GPS tracker connected to it.

Aye, leisure but make sure that tracker is nigh on impossible to find. It also helps if the leisure is equally impossible to get at for any opportunist.

Yeah I have a few little hidden areas I think I can hide the box in, and if its disconnected the battery has a good life in it too. Only challenge will be the GPS receiver and how to ensure it gets some sky without being obvious.
