Silver on upper grill edge

Post by danmetallic »

Any tips for reapplying silver around the outer edge of the upper grill. Or even if I should just let it be. It's pretty much worn away completely.

I would like to do the same. I've tried supposedly 'chrome' paint in the past with very disappointing results.
This is in this month’s Custom Car mag and all the chrome is painted but I don't know which product was used:

The funniest thing about this particular signature is that by the time you realise it doesn't say anything it's to late to stop reading it!

Was the original edging chrome or just metallic look?

I just got some of this from american ebay http://www.ebay.com/itm/Krylon-SILVER-L ... 1187009999

Saw links on the Samba with folks over the pond using it for the badges.

Worked out at £5.07 inc postage and took less than a week to arrive. Not yet tried out as it just arrived yesterday but I am planning to use it on the VW logo on the grille and also the tailgate badges.

As for the spray on chrome for the custom cars check out this http://www.jaylenosgarage.com/video/spr ... e/1232328/. Not quite suitable for an 80's VW though at least to my eyes but if anyone does like the idea of a chrome plated grille

Thank you. I think it was just metallic look, although I might be wrong. whatever it is It has worn away to a faded grey with the black showing through.

I happen to like the silver around the grill on certain vans. I redid mine by simply masking off the area, light scuff and spray with an off the shelf "bright silver" rattle can paint. Its not exactly "chrome" but i think it looks good just the same. It has held up well for a number of years now.

Very nice indeed! Would love to see some more photos. Would you mind doing I close-up one of the grill?
