Battery restraining clip - can't see how to undo it

Post by Moyners »

Hello all,

after having a delve around here today I have been able to remove my driver seat and swivel the base round to get access to the starter battery - I can't though lift the thing out because of the restraining clip and don't see how to get at the nut that will release the clip - is there a special tool I need to get at the wretched thing, or is there a trick to it?

Thanks

Paul

I think someones put the swivel seat on but used a non swivelling seat battery clamp.
Swiveling seat clamps are like this bolted to the seat base.

Standard seat clamps are bolted to the floor.

It is more like the second of those two photos . . . . but not exactly . . . . I'll try and take and post a pic of what I'm dealing with tomorrow.
Thanks
Paul.

With this pair of pics I'm trying to show that the clip is L-shaped and bolted at the same level as the base of the battery.

Do you think I might have to unbolt and lift off the whole seat swivel? (I did loosen one of the 4 bolts but am worried about where the nuts might fall and how I'd put them back on).

Can't you use a socket on a UJ?

Ah, so a socket and UJ is what I'll be seeking to borrow - thanks.

That's because someone's put the clamp on upside down.

Like oldie says can you get a socket with a U/J or a wobble extension down there.

With a little help from the chap with a garage at the bottom of the road the clamp finally came out - and it's not going back in!

Phew.

Thanks all
Paul.

I'd be tempted to cut a semicircle in the edge of the plate for future ease of access.
