Gremlins! HELP!

Post by Reimotim »

Ok, so two days ago I decided to charge my battery as the van was turning over but not catching and the battery sounded a little low.

Today I reconnected the battery and went for a start...
Lights on dash all lit up...
Waited for glow plug light to go out...
Turned the key...
Click....
Nothing
Dash Lights all went out..
Tried again, this time the oil light illuminated, but both the battery and glow plug light stayed unlit.
A further turn of the key prompted the usual relay click but nothing else.

Aside, but maybe connected, fuse 13 (blower motor and windscreen wipers?) has gone, thinking about it a couple of days ago the radio reset and their was a perculiar warm plastic/electric smell, but the blower was still going...

Where to begin? I'm quite happy to poke around with a spanner, but electrics is not a strong point!

Any advice great fully received, failing that general abuse/banter in order to lighten my downcast face please!

I had the exact fault a while back (click, then nothing. But everything else working) on mine it was a lose connection on the battery to block negative connection. I got someone to turn the key while looked at engine bay at night time. (you could see the blue arc from the bad contact)
Spade connector on starter motor is another place to look. Hope that helps

Yeah I've had the spade connector on the starter do something similar in June last year, but it was cut and replaced. So I hope that isn't the problem again!

Typical, haven't really needed the van for weeks, but this week is choca and hey presto no van!
Ho hum!
