Sure its not just the adjuser screws? Hamfisted buggers do mess the phillips screw heads up as the screw binds solid in the plastic clips over time.

What you can do is remove the headlight. Carefully remove the two adjusters by turning them gently with pliers to remove them from the backing plate then using a hacksaw saw a slot in the heads so you can turn them with a flat headed screwdriver. At the same time make sure you free the screw off in the plastic clip before refitting.

Or buy new adjusters from VW part number 251-941-141.....two for each round headlight. I assume they are available?

Otherwise buy one of the square headlight adjusters from brickwerks. Make sure it's one with a thread and not a knurled shaft and just swap the plastic clips from your old one onto the new one

:ok

PS

Adjusters are available from VW classic parts in germany only. Brickwerks deal with them regularly and will order some for you if you ask via email
