might be a bit more minamalist ie better looking if the wheels sat inside and the roof mounted bars were disposed of in favour of hinges like the og's ...they remind me of "ed 209" are there a couple of concealed gatling guns lurking in there

Feel free to contact them by all means via the website about group buy etc but please dont rip their Idea off by adding a water bottle or spraying them pink or what ever seems acceptable about doing a man out of his living etc... They have been tested and not just driven to the shops but I really dont know personally about how they perform.
Gary Lee built one of the first aftermarket spare tire carrier in a commercial series.
Many details of Gary's design and also the whole carrier have since been copied many times.
Translated from the Nordwest Equipment website .......
The lightest wheel holder on the market. Northwest Equipment has made it his task possible to construct a strong yet lightweight carrier with minimal use of materials and sophisticated CAD design has maximum stability.
Or just rip off Gary Lee's hinge design ..........
The Gary lee style spreader plate / hinge mounts work well. For an ultimate mount I think the vw original hinge extended inward and mounted like the Gary lee mounts would be good. Probably a bit over kill though.
Can the genuine vw mounts and catches not be found?? Bending bits if pipe isn't exactly difficult if you have the tools.
the og has welded in sectional reinforment behind the hindges, also reinforcemt behind the "cube" recever hitch in the form of 2 metal strips... there are eight cast parts in total that make up the fittings of the og carrier
Can the cast parts be machined ? Also as there are several versions of the original from a variety of sources how did they improve or not on the original. I'm interested in the development of wheel carriers as its one of the bits of equipment that has not been fully mastered either in terms of economics, form or function, take your pick. Hence the wide variety of incarnations seen in Paul's link to IG16 above.

i was speaking to someone at the overland show that said they could get hold of the CAD programs for the corner brackets, one of our lot just can´t remember who
