Re: Upper Ball Joint spacer
Only lemforder ball joints appear to be machined at an angle, I.e the spigot is not inline with the bolt holes.
Cheaper ball joints are machined parallel.
Another one of the reasons why we shelved making some.

Re: Upper Ball Joint spacer
I know..... a bit of a thread resurrection but i'm looking at these now.
There is on this thread a bit of conflict if they are any good/safe. I have found a set that has a bit of a different set up. Bolts top and bottom and a washer on top. Look really well made. Will probably work out about £30 more expensive than the uk offerings. But they are just copies of the the gowesty one which are 50 bucks

and of it fitted

any opinions?.....

Re: Upper Ball Joint spacer
the go westy ones are just copies of syncro hospital ones, the s/a and the holman ones also have a nut and washer under the ball joint so your not just reling on the threaded section of the ball joint, but the go westy ones dont have this. just a little difference but it's an extra safety ditale which is no bad thing in my eyes.
i would like to know what the spacers are made of, if like the others on the market they are made of alloy i would be very hesitant about using them.

What do you mean 'just copies of the the gowesty one' ?
'Look really well made' ....... based on what criteria?

Why? If you mean Aluminium as opposed to 'alloy' why would you be hesitant in using them?

your right aluminium not alloy, the bolts look quite short to me i am guessing about 15mm of thread i just dont like the idea of that amount of thread (ok double that amount of thread) holding parts of the front suspension together.
just my thoughts

Re: Upper Ball Joint spacer
Neil, Ian's and all the others are alloy too. So that means yours are too?
So s'paddy are you just repeating what I'm saying as you don't have a opinion?
But FYI by copies of go westy ones I mean... The ones sold by the company that I will not name are imported from go westy with a 100% mark up, Ian's are pretty much the same thing (I don't quite know what Neil means by a washer under the balljoint. And be SH ones too.
As for being well made, well I think we all know, anything made in stealth black is pucker.....
But if you look at the picture of it fitted, it is angled so the ball joint is flatter, and in my uneducated opinion looks a better option
Not slagging other people's products off BTW, the pricing separates them a bit. But the gowesty ones are only $50

Re: Upper Ball Joint spacer
mine are s/a ones and also made of aluminium, the go westy ones have a longer bolt which goes through the upper wich bone, through the spacer, and is thread for the whole thing is the threaded section of the upper ball joint.
the sa ones and ian's also come with an additional washer and nut fitted below ball joint. the go westy ones dont have this extra washer and nut.

Re: Upper Ball Joint spacer
I've just got what you meant Neil, a nut and washer X2 on the fixing bolts. The ones I linked to have a big washer that sits on top of the wishbone

Re: Upper Ball Joint spacer
I've been talking with GMB about sticking theirs.
Out of all of them theirs seem the best (to me).
We spoke at the end if last year but it was too close to Christmas and to get a sensible deal to be able to sell them I would have to buy lots, and at that time if year I was reluctant to do so.
Now the Christmas lull has passed and things are a little easier I will contact them again.
Not only do theirs lift the arm to get some positive camber back they also reduce the angle on the ball and have the washer too.

Re: Upper Ball Joint spacer
Well, as you'll most likely be sticking them on when you do those few bits for me, shall I hold off buying them for a coupLe weeks, and see if you get them in?

Re: Upper Ball Joint spacer
I don't see the need for them at all really unless you do a body lift as well as a spring lift as those together would bring the top arm and ball joint well out of its comfort zone. Even at full bump the ball joint is within its design limit unless you've fitted shock extenders. All that money spent and all that uncertainty for a few millimeters !!
However, I would think a bolt all the way through would be a bit stronger but as Simon says angles are better achieved with the 4 screw system

If you had tried to set wheel alignment on a T3 Syncro you would totally see the point of them.
