Clutch on 5 speed making a knocking sound
Hi
I have a slight concern that I would like to get sorted before our Holiday season starts so any info would be gratefully recieved,
When the clutch pedal is fully depressed and the gear has been selected (2nd gear to 3rd and from 3rd to 4th) and the clutch has only just bitten after the pedal lifted there is a single knock coming from the clutch area. At first I thought it might be the CV joints however there is only very slight movement coming from the nearside shaft and the knock is just a single knock and not a series of knocks as I would have expected. If I release the clutch as gently as possible I am able to stop the knock. The van pulls fine and the gearchange is good, however would a damadged release bearing cause this knock ?
Cheers beforhand
Nick

Petrol Engine? then there is a good possibility the engine mountings 'on the cradle' have come apart (metalastic components...the bonding of metal brackets to rubber) strangely...as the whole weight of the engine sits on the mountings, they can often appear to be fine.....put a jack under the engine (protect with a block of wood) lift slightly and look at the mounts.
4 X mountings....inner/outter.

You were spot on, after struggling to get the engine out with the plastic oil filler neck still in I realised that three of them were shot, only just been through the MOT as well.
Cheers

Good news mate....
Engine mountings are not part of an MOT soo...even if they had been seen it may have only warranted an advisory

Yeah, I read that this was the case, I suppose it makes sense although in all my years I've never seen an engine actually fall out.

10 points to Martin there
You don't mean you took the engine out, do you ?
