For the uses you have listed a 150 Watt one would be fine :ok so 300 watts would give some spare capacity, no bad thing.

Re the DVD player, does it not have a 12 volt input, most do. It would be MUCH more efficient and save quite a lot of battery power if it has.

Phones.....in car charger (12 volts to 5volts usually)

iPod.....USB (12 volts to 5 volts)

DVD player....usually 12 volts anyway.

All the devices you mention are much more efficiently powered by in car/USB chargers and not UPPING the cars 12 volts to 230 volts only to use adapters to drop the power back down to 5 & 12 volts.

Invertors are really only useful for 'Mains 230 volt' appliances.

Wouldn't it be cheaper - as well as much more power efficient - to just buy 12v chargers...?

None, unless you have one heck of a battery bank.

Could just build a small fire to keep warm. As long as you keep the window open tho.

Thanks all ill forget that then, just use one on electric hook up. And see how we get on with the gas one in the floor ( need to find out how much gas it will use) maybe you can get a bigger bottle ill look into that and how much heat comes from it.

Is this "gas one in the floor" a fitted Propex warm air heater (or similar) ? If so, is it red or blue ?

Back to inverters = This one looks particularly nice

It's a 1500 Watt pure sine wave one, just sold on ebay for £38   (it was not new however and it said "no returns" :? or I would have bid on it  ) I bet it gets a bit "hot" :rofl
