Vantracks, rock and roll beds, and children.

Lurked and searched but been ages since I last posted.

Gerty, our 91 autohomes komet, needs a new rock and roll bed.

I need to carry two children in car seats (3 yrs and 3 mths). Currently have fitted a 3 point seatbelt on near side using the brickwerks kit. but previously had our eldest on the passenger seat and my wife sat in back.

This year we need to put both kids in back. What seat options do I have? Which ones are good? Do I need an outrageously expensive crash tested bed with seat belts attached or because the belts are fixed to the van body will a standard RnR bed be ok?

Done some searching and found Vantracks, they have a few options and sent an email, but does anyone know of them or used them?

We have a Bluebird steel-framed RnR bed the base of which which is bolted through the floor and to the bulkhead, in my opinion seatbelts are only as good as the seats the passenger's sat in.

There are already rear seat belts fitted to my Komet. They're fitted to the van rather than the seat. Did your Komet not have them fitted?

Oh yeah, just noticed the kid's ages so they need to be in little kiddie 'chairs' fastened to the seatbelts.

I believe three points can be fitted but you'll have to cut a slot in the wardrobe side for the high level anchor point.

Our daughters car seat fitted with a lap belt or 3way. both methods passed all the testing when they where made so we trusted it.

Will try and find the name of it for you if you would like may be an option for you?

There aren't any crashtest beds for the t25(that fit well) so you're better off with a decent R&R bed and 3 pointers attached to the van .
I used this method to move the tricky belt on the cupboard side further down the van. It works well.

We have two three point belts fitted in the back of our Club Joker, both of which are fitted to the sliding door side, and which replaced the lap belts that were fitted when we got the van. The one nearest the door uses the Brickwerks kit with the retractor fitted behind the lining panel so it is out of the way of the bed. The other belt, furthest from the door was fitted by: Seat Belt Service. The retractor is mounted high up on the rear pillar out of the way and there are two receivers fitted to the old lap belt attachment points - the belt basically has two tongue 'ends' that clip into the receivers to give a three point belt - this image on their site shows the retractor in position.

It's worth noting that if you are fitting belts in the back for child seats, then you should try to get receivers with short 'stalks', so that the receiver body only just sticks up above the surface of the seat. Receivers with longer 'stalks' are fine for adults using the belts but because of the way the seatbelt routes through the base of some child seats we initially had a problem in that it prevented the seatbelt holding the child seat tight to the bench.
