Hi, whilst having some electrical work done the ribbon thing at the back of the dash pod got melted, i now have no lights on the dash. the electrics man says i have to get another pod and ribbon, is this the way to go and how easy is it to get one, are they all different? 1984 LHD 1.9 petrol DF, Thanks

There are people on this forum that have hard wired there dials look for the threads,seems pretty easy to do if you know what your doing ,and would be cheaper,but if not I have seen some on eBay

if its just the lights that are affeced you should be able to hard wire em from the connector block.

Found secondhand ribbon circuit which seemed in good condition, the auto elecs man has fitted it and has had a couple of attempts getting everything working, however with only partial success as one of the dashlights and the oil light dont work. He got them functioning with the cover off but when he put the cover on the pod they stopped again.I think he's had enough of it and suggests i find a complete pod with the ribbon undisturbed and fit that. These are not easily obtained and probably pricey! Any ideas for a solution would be welcome or if anybody knows of a T25 electrics wizard N.Wales, cheshire, shropshire that could do the job please let me know, thanks

All you need is an early ribbon. Post a wanted ad

I did get a replacement ribbon but the auto elecs man cannot get it all working consistantly,maybe someone more experienced would be able to sort it out?

Some are for petrol models, some are diesel, some are early type with a vertical plug some are late type with a horizontal plug. Are you sure you have the right one? Some pictures would help your cause.

Is this the same leccy who melted the original?

Hi, thanks for the info, the replacement is from a diesel,i think its a horizontal plug, the leccy man thought it would work, just not using the glow plug part,he got it working but it was on and off, he thinks its because the ribbon board has been disturbed or damaged!

No, i think its a vertical plug!

as long as both connectors are vertical all should be ok .

check the pins are all good on the connector.

you need to hold the ribbon up to the light to check for splits in the tracks.

you also need to make sure all the connections are ok , leds and plugs.

you can try 'wobbling' the connector to see if it works? what things were being done when the original one blew?
