AFN/1Z Q's..
I have an AFN with fubar'd rings from running on. I also have a good low miles 1z. Question is;
Can i put the Afn injectors,pump,manifolds,turbo etc on the 1z bare block. I have read that the 1z is not as strong an engine as the afn but that doesn't concern me at the moment as my 1z is low miles and i'm not tuning.

I have a AFN block, £70?
But yes you can mix and match
There is slight differences in the valves ect, but it will work fine

Re: AFN/1Z Q's..
Lloydy I've messaged you on the other forum about the turbo you have left!
Basically I should have bought the complete motor from you as I took a chance on a passat locally which was a non runner and the turbo has gone and ran the motor on!
The car was cheap though and at least I have a loom now so Andy can get that done for me before he goes on his trip! Now I really want to keep it cheap for the moment so I'll have to use my block and find a tidy cheap turbo ( Lloydy?)

I don't know, I imagine there would be differences. But doubt if it would be anything too drastic. I do have a AFN pump though

Pumps are the same...more or less...some differences with autos and other oddities but basic pumps are the same on 1z and Afn.

Re: AFN/1Z Q's..
my spare one was from a auto, I thought they had 11mm pump heads. have been told x amount of digits into part number dictates pump head
0=10mm
1=11mm
2=12mm
looks like the one on mine is 10mm which is odd?

Re: AFN/1Z Q's..
TDI have 10mm head and rotor.
It's the 10th digit of the bosch no I think, not the VW no.
You can also break the other bosch code down into amount of cylinders and governed speed as well as direction of rotation.

just lifted this from tdI forum
the 6th number on ref is plunger diameter
0=10
1=11
2=12
0 460 414 987 is 11mm head and plunger
think it might be a USA thing only though

USA only...nah, Bosch pumps are German ish so part number should tie in with all worldwide...I think anyway.

Re: AFN/1Z Q's..
well, the 6th digit on my spare one is 0 and that is from a auto.so I'm disproving my own point
