Engine help needed
Hello,
I have an 83 petrol 1.9 dg engine in my camper. I bought the camper 12 months ago and had to have a recon engine after a week because the other was beyond repair. I got a recon from elite VW and am now regretting it in a massive way.
Today I changed the starter motor which was quite a big thing for me as I'm trying to learn how to fix it myself.
On completion of changing the starter motor I started it and it started first time.
However then disaster struck and the engine emptied it's entire oil contents on my driveway.
It appears that one of the core plugs have popped out and spilt the contents.
I can't see where the core plug has popped out from because it appears to be behind the engine mount.
Does anyone know if the engine needs to be dropped and can the core plug be put back in?
Dropping the engine is way beyond my capabilities and my wife is at the end of her patience with the time and money.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Engine help needed
the core plug is best renewed and are inexpensive.
the engine will have to be lowered and the mount carrier bar removed
can you spot the plug from this picture?
No. 9 or 12 seems likely

Hello Kev,
It appears to be below the crank shaft pulley. I can't see because of the engine bearer.

Re: Engine help needed
Bad luck! As Kev says its lowered not necessarily dropped do you may fi d it more possible than it seems. Core plugs are basically knocked in to be a very tight friction fit, the ones I put in a Dg manifold were 10mm I think- I'd guess that other ones on the same engine might be the same dia? Anyway, you should have a warranty with any reputable supplied engine.
Support the engine solidly on secondary stands, blocks etc over do it even to feel that it's really safe. Then you can think about seperating the engine support bar from the engine . Sounds like you might need to take off the pulley from your description?

Thanks for your replies,
I've taken the pulley off this afternoon and that was fairly straight forward. The warranty was for 2 years and I've had it for 13 months, however the company is in Essex and I'm in Bolton.
I've spoken to them in the past and they want very little to do customers after the engine has left their premises.
I have the core plug that has popped out. Can this one be placed back in or should I buy new?

Hello, definitely oil that dropped out. I can't understand it though.
The engine is now definitely empty of oil. I'm getting really worried now.
