Re: Happy New Year, oh yeah and HELP!!!
Now then Martin,
Depends on the price you paid really. If you got it cheap enough then you may not have lost too much. I know a fairly local T25 owner who has a very rusty air cooled van. The engine seems OK. I'm just waiting for him to decide to scrap it then I'll put the parts on here in 'For Sale'.
My own van is for sale and it's one that I know is good. (hint) Of course any interested person will only have my word for it. What was the wording on the ebay advert? Have you a link to it?
Sorry you've had a bad first experience, the buyer of mine will have a good experience - even though it's a high top.

Re: Happy New Year, oh yeah and HELP!!!
Did you mean oil coming out of the tail pipe of the exhaust as this will be on the RH side with you facing the rear of the van with a standard exhaust?
if oil is from the LH side could be as said above pushrod tube seals, or rocker cover gasket, leaking oil pressure switch, oil cooler seals, dizzy seal all easy repairs without removing engine. Check the screw on oil filter is hand tight and not leaking.

If it's the one in the link below it's got a twin tailpipe EMPI style(carp!) exhaust.

You need to find out what's wrong before you start doubting the success of the purchase.
These are old vans things can and will fail .....maintenance and awareness will reduce the risk but it will still happen.
You could buy a really good van ....and it could fail on the first trip.
Get it booked into somewhere good....learn as much as you can.....look after it and enjoy it.

Re: Happy New Year, oh yeah and HELP!!!
Again thanks for all the advice, the oil is coming out of the left hand side and yes that is the van in the ebay link, bodywork is very sound, just a small patch of rust inside the forward passenger wheel arch, nothing i can't sort, welding is the only thing i can do.
The wife and i sat in her again, we've named her Beryl, and planned all the things, like putting a proper interior Nd fake grass on the floor, so repairing the engine is something that will have to be done now we have planned all that.
Even with her not working i still love her.

That U seat Autosleeper interior is one of the best layouts with a full width bed money can buy.
The furniture is made with quality materials...
The roof is considered one of the best looking too.
But then I am biased.

Got to agree Kev, I like the U shaped seating, but you lose a lot of cupboard space at the side of the 'kitchen unit'. I like the hightop as well for the storage.I just emptied my clutter and I have filled 6 large plastic storage boxes with just the small stuff.kevtherev wrote:That U seat Autosleeper interior is one of the best layouts with a full width bed money can buy.

Nice van buddy ,Aircooled engine are easy to work on,just remeber regular oil changes and keep an eye on the oil level regularly coz that is its way of cooling.
To drop the engines out is easy and cylinders and pistons ain't that expensive and not to bad for a home mechanic to change.
Take your spark plugs out they can tell you a story of the engine condition and if there oily then piston rings have gone.
Anyway there is a wealth of knowledge on this site and helpful people so good luck and fingers crossed buddy
Cheers dazz.
Ps from the pics on eBay have the seams been covered up,coz i can't see many might just be the pic
