Does anyone know what this wire is
From what i can see it goes under the carb somewhere an is got three pins but the wire is melted ,its off an A redg 1.9 water cooled

Assuming it serves the same function as on my 2.0l aircool, it's the connector for the timing apparatus used by VW garages when these vans were current. It shouldn't be connected to anything except when such a timing check is being done.
If so then it leads to a pickup on the front of the crankcase, and is triggered by studs on the flywheel.
