I had a replacement engine fitted several months ago after a slight problem (caused by me) but since then the van has not been used.
With the MOT dues soon I have to get it 'up and going' again.
I was told the alternator is on the way out, so I am considering getting this replaced, rather than waiting until I am away camping and it needs done.
My qustions are as follows .
Are alternators a standard size
Which one / brand is best
A friend is quite mechanically minded and has offered help .. He just says to buy one, but before I dive in, thougt I better ask some advice here.
Any help would be appreciated

Re: New alternator for T25 Diesel van
on its way out why?
bearings , casing , output?
usually the output low is bad wiring / worn brush pack both usually sorted with a bit of labour and low costs
check the volts at the alternator and battery , they should be the same

On it's way out?
Worn bearings? or often...worn rear bearing casing? obviously needs reconditioning.
Ignition light coming on intermittantly or coming on all the time? usually just needs a £15 regulator/brush pack fitting.
Best make....Bosch which was the original make.
Can you be more specific about the issue
