I have just spoke to seller again just now
he said the previous owner told him fridge was working, but hes going to double check that tonight
he found the sticker underneath dash and it had a JX engine and an ASS gearbox from new,so i know the gearbox has been changed to a 4 speed (which one I don't know)
would I be able to see the gearbox code with the box still in situ?
the engine looks like a jx to me,although the power steering has been taken off as I can still see the bracket where it sits, how would i go on about fitting power steering or do I really need it with all the engine weight so to speak on the back end?

You don't need power steering ....right tyres...pumped up and it's no biggy.

Many people retrofit electic power steering....but that can be later if you really need it

Power steering is niiiice, one of those things you don't need until you've got it.

We test drove JX-powered Jokers with and without. Definitely nicer with.

Agreed it has to be nicer.....the question was along the lines of ....is it an issue to have one without.....

My joker doesn't.....I have thought about adding it.....but I don't see it as an essential.....as said nice to have especially for parking in tight spots.

If I do add it it will be eps.

Chap at that money it's worth it, even if you spent another 3k or 4k on it it's still a cheap westy. Go get it, use it and fix stuff as you go along.
Regardless of others opinion having owned both a British conversion and a westy there really is no comparison. You will always get your money back with that purchase

well I think we have given sca as much info as we can, the obviouse failings and the things to check, armed with this and subject to the basic stuff being as it should then i would look to buy at a reduced price, its would be an easy get on th eroad and after using a bit decide on wether its for you and worth spending more time and money
