which bit of my choke is not working properly?
Ok - 2.1 DJ running LPG on the 1.9 carb.
so...during the spring, summer autumn the van starts perfectly, and will idle from cold at around 1000 revs.
It has NEVER run at 2000 revs, then stepped down. (Daughter was petrified when her new van did this on petrol!)
so....in the last two days when it has been a tad chilly, the van still starts....but I am having to hold it on the pedal at about 2000 for a while...then it will idle - might get a bit lumpy, but it holds, just.
so...something needs looking at.
I have read the article on the wiki - and I am not sure whether the choke is doing anything....or whether it needs adjusting...or repairing inside. Once its warm it will idle fine at 1000 revs.
so - I just need to get it to do the fast idle thing.
all help, pointers as ever, appreciated

Hi Em
Firstly give every thing a good squirt of plus gas and then some light oil.
the step/choke shaft can and does seize or get a little reluctant to move about.
I'm sure you've seen my pictures regarding the housing adjustment.
Moving it clockwise should engage the final step

Re: which bit of my choke is not working properly?
ok stupid question...
when i spray this with the plus gas....where exactly do I spray? Do I leave everything in situ?
or remove the carb cover and spray in the van when cold.
Or do I have to take it to bits (eek)
Thanks very much (and remember I am a real beginner)

Re: which bit of my choke is not working properly?
YES!!!!
Thankyou!! I may well be able to manage that!
I will let you know how I get on.
Is it worth spraying it with WD40 or carb cleaner to get the gunk off first?
Cheers - and apologies for the daft questions

Re: which bit of my choke is not working properly?
Hi - bit of an update;
went down to van, removed the plastic cover on top of the carb.
Engine STONE COLD. The brass flap (butterfly?) was NOT closed off fully.
choke adjustment about 25% off fully anticloclockwise. Now in middle of the adjusters.
So....went to look at other carb on syncro (no lpg)
engine STONE COLD. The brass flap fully shut.
so....my question...what position should the butterfly be in after being driven then parked all night? Both were driven last night.
Thanks
Em

Re: which bit of my choke is not working properly?
On the van if you open the throttle by hand ( where the cable is ) the brass flap should reset to the cold position, the choke should still be open if the engine was up to temp when last driven because the fast idle is on a stepped cam and cannot return until the throttle is depresed and then the spring should reset the choke (brass butterfly) this is why the plus gas/ wd 40 is important on the springs to make sure everything moves freely,Check Haynes manual iirc there should be a 3mm gap betwwen the butterfly and venturi side wall
