Cable and stat make no difference to the way it starts, they just speed up the warming process.

Got all the bits a was missing and replaced, checked for vacume etc and all runs sweet. Is it me or does my bus go a bit quicker cos of this, no hesitation just power thru all the gears, cant believe how much of a difference its made. Just need to see what its like in the morning too. Ordered all my other bits today, heat exchanger, thermostat etc. Money well spent i hope.

have you done a compression check to give you an idea of the engines condition , have you checked for airleaks on the induction side , is the carburettors got all the parts they should have fitted , is the timing set to factory spec , and is the distributor advancing correctly to 30 degrees
