renault diesel pump/aaz pump

Post by davegeezzer008 »

Out of my depth here as i have never done the timing on a diesel so any help would be appreciated !! :?

Im doing an AAZ conversion, the aaz pump ive got is apparently not the best one to use so i bought a 1996 renault espace 2.1 turbo pump as these are meant to be a good alternative.

the problem i have is the AAZ pulley is larger in circumfrence so i need to swop them over. the nose/spindle is tapered and has a key way, the renault uses the key but the AAZ one doesent !!, I thought when you do the timing you lock the pump/pulley in position but if the aaz pulley doesent use a key way how do i know how to fit the pulley in the correct place?

Question that may be relevent. Is the taper on the renault pump the same size /dia as the AAZ pump.If it is provided the alignment of the sprockets is okay you could fit the AAZ sprocket without using the keyway.

Yes the tapers are identical,

in the picture the renault on is the one with the key way, so there would be no problem locking the position of the pulley.
the other pulley is the AAZ, bolting it on isnt a problem but the slot in the taper boss could end up any where !!! .

There is a guy on brickyard who uses this pump, post on the diesel section. Hopefully he'll see it and help you out.

went to see my mate at his garage and hes told me the only way to put the boss/ pulley on correctly is to take it to a injector pump place, says its a normal thing he has had to do in the past, :ok

Update incase anyone else has a brain wave about using a pump from a renault DONT BOTHER !!!!, the diesel injector place told me there was no way to lock the pump (without the pulley on )so to get the aaz pulley in the correct orientation would be pretty much impossible and also because the mounting holes to mount it to the engine are elongated so there is another variable  , its not impossible to use it but you would have to keep turning the pulley to find the correct place. to hit and miss for my liking !! . so im after an aaz pump the one without all the electrickery on it :?
