Fuel hose size

Post by AdrianC »

Following the saga of endlessly replacing the fuel hoses this summer, with modern petrol seeming to eat the new hose for fun, I'm looking to do it properly this time.

We've got one of BW's metal bulkhead fitting replacements, with what I measure to be 7mm (with a ruler, nothing more accurate to hand) barbs - and I'm looking around for bio-fuel safe petrol hose. The most recent, and "best" spec is SAE R30 J9 - but that seems rocking-horse poo in the right size. Brickwerks 7mm fuel hose says nothing about the rating, so it seems safe to assume that's older non-bio-safe. (Simon? Any more info, brand etc?)

The only source I can find for 7mm J9-spec is Volksbolts. Except they want thirty quid for a metre and a half, when other sizes from other vendors are less than a fiver a metre. And it's not even in stock...

So what sizes can I use? The last stuff I bought has lasted so far, but was too small ID, and a real pain to fit. Without dismantling, I can't see what size that was - it didn't have any markings. Most of the vendors seem to list 7.6mm, but say they may substitute 7.94mm, which "feels" too big.

Thoughts?
