Hi, I got all 4 for my leisuredrive roof from SGS engineering about 18 months ago. Just remember they are 2 different strengths.

Hi Adam

The 4 rams fitted on the roof are 2 different strengths. 1 weaker one and 1 stronger one at each end.

They are measured in newtons i think, and are bloody strong. I used a nylon buckle strap to compress mine a bit when fitting them.

I think mine were 270N and 400N if i remember correctly but please don't quote me on that. They should say on the old ones.

As for price, they were just over £100 for all 4 including new ball ends.

Not particularly for a 6'2" 17 stone bloke but thats just another job nobody else can do when we go camping! Along with everything except brushing out and complaining how untidy the van is.

Any hints on how you used the strap to compress them? I want to replace the struts on my moonraker pop-top at some point and have a scheme in my head involving cable ties and a ratchet strap to compress them, but I suspect better techniques are available!

cant you remove them when roof is up,prop it up or get someone to hold it open while someone un bolts them.

I could just about compress the struts when pushing down on them on the ground, so with help from a mate I managed to get a strap around them when they were compressed a bit. It was tricky not to cover the socket bit on the end though.

I then replace them one at a time, i actually used my waste water container to prop the roof up.

I currently prop my moonraker roof open with a couple of lengths of wood anyway, as it falls down at the slightest hint of a gust of wind with the current struts in and my kid sleeps up there!

I was assuming that the struts will still need compressing a bit even with the roof right up - I won't know until I try it
