Insurance
I just renewed my insurance with Admiral multicar and am paying half the previous year's premium on the van and less on the car too. There was a bit of a hitch when they asked me about modifications to the van which include power steering and LPG. The upshot was that the PAS was put down as 'suspension other' and initially they would not insure the van at all because it was not listed on the drive LPG website. They have relented but this may be an issue in the future if your LPG converted van is not listed. In the meantime from my experience (although it took 2 hours on the phone) so far I am saving a not inconsiderable sum! I am not in anyway connected to Admiral but it seems like a good deal.
Re: Insurance
Admiral?
Wouldn't dream about ringing a car insurer to insure a camper
Get a proper camper policy from adrian flux, glynwood etc that includes an agreed value

Re: Insurance
Admiral indeed. They have an agreed value procedure as part of the policy. I'm not putting the van on until March 2013 because it still has insurance to run on the exisiting policy. I'll let the forum know how I fair in this.
Re: Insurance
It's a surprise to me that they even considered putting the van on. Sounds like good news to me.
Depending on what van you have, it may or may not be worth taking the risk.
What sort of details do they ask about the van conversion? Did you have to send photos?
The risk is (as I'm are you know) At the end of the day, when they replace your stolen pride and joy with the cash price of a panel van - is that good enough?
To be honest, I'm starting to think it might be for me. Motor home policies might work well for known conversions but they sting you on mileage and if you commute to work in it. Mine has gone up £150 this year because they felt like it. Glynwood claimed its because I drive to work in the van and have 10k mileage a year.
They seem to conveniently ignore security modifications when they ask for payment.
Sorry, more of a rant than any help. I hope it works out for you!

Re: Insurance
They asked me about modifications. I have had LPG, PAS and lowered suspension all of which were accepted. I would like to put on non standard alloys further down the line but have yet to broach this with them.
Re: Insurance
Did they ask what type of conversion it was? Auto homes, holdsworth, westfalia etc?

Re: Insurance
Sorry about the late response. I told them in my initial application it is an Autosleeper.

ha adrain flux... roulette bandits..
each year its like a game of chance, i have 13 years ncb , am 36 , no points nothing .. and they wanyed 740 odd quid to insure my audi s4 , admiral were the exact opposite, polite , courteous and could do the policy for 380 .
im with flux at the mo with my camper , and tbh , it wont be that way next year , alot of this is down to the way they cant offer a good off the bat price ..
imho no one company is better than the other, it always pays to shop around and change everyfew years
