Replacement Windscreen

Post by AllenTheHat »

I am in the process of repairing the usual rusty window edges on my Devon. Upon removal of the glass I managed to crack my windscreen  .

Does anyone have any recommendations on where I can order a new windcreen from which does not need to be collected from somewhere the other side of the country.

No no no no.....I am treating it to new seals all round once all the holes have been welded, filled, painted etc. I want my camper to stop crying rusty yellow tears.

Just checking out custom and commercial now.....never even knew it existed.

Yep, cut it out with a stanley. As I was pulling a long strip of rubber off it creaked slightly and I just saw a hair line fracture appear straight up from the bottom edge. After a few choice words with myself I carried on. Sods law it was the windscreen and no other window.

The problem is trying to track down a new windscreen. They seem to be like rocking horse s**t and only available from VW Heritage as a collection only....d'oh.

Surely they can't be that hard to find, I replaced the windscreen on my SA bus in August due to numerous stone chips, just went to local autoglaze place and they had one shipped from the UK for me in 2 days with the correct overall tint and top-tint (they had a selection listed), only thing I couldn't get was the built-in aerial. Supplied & fitted cheaper than VW Heritage prices too :D

Or there's a thread on here about getting heated ones made, nice...

Try Andyvan on the Brickyard.
He recently broke a van and listed a windscreen :ok

I used this lot for my screen http://www.thewindscreenco.co.uk/branches.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (green tint with blue sun shield strip) and a seal from Custom and commercial,
Very reasonable and fitted by really nice bloke with 37yrs experience, he reckoned the C&C seal was spot on too :ok

Just rung smile windscreens and they quoted £114 inc vat supply and fit. I'm not quite ready for it yet, but it's the best price I got so far.

Hi,

Not much use where your located down south but they do seem to be avaible via windscreen suppliers/fitters. Our local used/new spare supplier on Merseyside had no problem picking one up next day. Brand new supplied, delivered and fitted 17 miles away for £75 inc.

We did commit the sin of reusing the old seal though as they didnt have one available and two yaers down the line are paying the price with water under the mat after continual/heavy rain.
