I've known folks buy a slider for the wrong side.

Ah, we're talking sliding doors. That's a relief. So am I right in thinking that there is no difference between early and late cab doors?

cab doors all the same all years - as far as fitting goes!
the latch part on the C pillar is just a bit welded on by VW , as said get one cut from a van and weld it to your pillar , 2 x 1 inch welds!
i had the discussion with someone the other day and its possible you maybe able to fit the early middle hinge or cut / chop the bar and use the early rail / late door but not yet had the chance to test!
prob lots of early vans have rotten rails , so just as easy to fit a late rail and fit a late door also usually fubarbed at the same time!

Done it
, well just finishing next week. I managed to fabricate later door tomy early van. First the differs. Locks I have used the early lock on the first latch, needed to cut few holes. The second lock is off the later door and cable too, to make this work I have fabricated a bracket to house the latch, no cutting required although I had to cut out a hole for the slider unit and drill some bolt holes too. I am in the process of trying to put up pics. O and a BIG O windows are different too, but the plan is cut larger glass off the early door. Think that's it if I can figure how to put pic on will do. Yey.
