Will these springs fit?
Hi,
Quick one, I brought a 1.9 watercooled dg (late) and it came with a box set of 4 springs. 2 were already on the back and the other 2 are still in the box. the 2 that are on the front could do with being changed as they are a bit rusty and it would be nice to have a few less bumps!
The front 2 are lower than the new back ones and i have R18 rims with low profile tyres.
Is there any reason why all 4 wouldnt have been changed at the same time other than the look of having the front lower than the back? Can i put these ones on and is it a big job?
Cheers

Backs are a doddle, fronts it's shock absorber out, upper ball joint undone etc ... 10 times the job.

Just finished doing mine about an hour ago, theres a link to brickworks in the modified section on someones post telling you how to do it, not a massive job the biggest problem i had was all the nuts and bolts were rusty ended up rounding the allen bolts off on the upper ball joint and had to split it.
You will need some hefty sockets and a strong arm,wd 40 and some spring compressors, give us a shout if you need to know anything else

Re: Will these springs fit?
changing the front springs was undoubtedly the scariest job ive ever done on the van. those spring compressors terrify me having said that- go for it - just have the right tools and tread lightly!

Why do people persist in using WD40 for rusty nuts and bolts - use Plusgas 100 x better than a water dispersant!lees wrote: wd 40 and some spring compressors, give us a shout if you need to know anything else

two questions..
1, Are you happy with the hard ride?
2, What is the load index of those low profile car tyres?

Re: Will these springs fit?
Hi All,
Sorry for the late reply, ive been in switzerland and the van has been parked up. (which she was not pleased about!)
I would guess that the front ones have been left for the look and maybe that the back ones needed doing and were easy.
Personally id prefer that the ride was a bit less bouncy and the low profile tyres should help to keep hold of the road as they do now.
Tyres say max load is 630kg and max pressure is 50psi
Thank you all for your help, i think ill have a crack, mate of mine has the compressers.
Cheers

Re: Will these springs fit?
The rating you're looking for is marked as LI (load index) I think a minimum of 95 is needed but most van tyres are over 100.
