help syncro problemo
Had new starter motor and bush fitted, all good got it home not far and parked up for couple of days, went back to it to turn it round and park in usual spot and noticed it was fighting me trying to do a three point turn. checked plungers on lower dash, both pushed in no lights on. managed a thousand point turn and re parked .
came back to it today and same problem
checked plungers and noticed neither completely pushed home.
So activated both plunger and checked for vaccum noise all good de activated and waited before short test drive and it fought me every turn only over about 10 metres.
is my syncro system not de activating ?
Could this be something to do with the starter motor relpacement, ( they dropped the engine out )
Or could it be that i specifically said don't pull those plungers when i dropped it off.
Help undrivable at moment
Thanks in advance for any helpful replies matt

Re: help syncro problemo
Hi Matt, welcome to the forum.
Am I understanding that your saying they took the engine out to change the starter motor?
Where are you? Just incase anyone is local and can help. Sounds like the front diff lock could be on.

Hi Matt and welcome ...
As Jed says, it sound like your diff lock(s) are on. If they removed the engine (why?) its possible that they pulled the vac tubes off your diff lock actuator and put them back on wrong but its difficult to say. When you say 'fighting' are your rear wheels 'skipping' and the steering pulling the arms off you? If so something has happened to the diff lock actuation circuit. Remember diff locks will only engage and disengage when the vehicle is moving. Pulling and pushing the knobs when stationary wont do anything. Try driving in a straight line and operate the knobs.

On a petrol starter motor, whilst you wouldn't normally remove the engine, you do have to move the difflick actuator out of the way, so it could have had the vacuum tubes reversed - but I'm sure you just notice skipping at the back rather than locking up, does sound like a front did flock engaged if it is really fighting.

Re: help syncro problemo
Try it with the rear locker pulled out see if it eases the problem. If it does then swap the vac pipes around at the rear diff lock actuator" blue thing" and then run as normal.
Best pull the vac pipes out of the rubber tubes on the actuator rather than try pulling the rubber tubes of the actuator. They get fragile when they are old and can break with very little effort.

Ps why the hell did they pull the engine to change the starter???

Re: help syncro problemo
Thing is if you drove it back no problems then the front diff lock wasn't engaged thats for sure. I have lowered the gearbox slightly when I swapped the starter on the Doka the last time it went but that was only because the engine protection and prop were off anyway. Engine out does seem a bit mental to me personally and although its a bit of a prick to change a starter on a petrol van its a peace of cake on a diesel so assume its a petrol van.

Re: help syncro problemo
Yep, petrol starter is a major pain in the spuds...but so is taking the engine out...maybe they just dropped it down a bit?
Re: help syncro problemo
yep 1.9 petrol doka
Probably just dropped engine a bit, sorry overly dramatic.
The basics are before it went in all the syncro system and running gear was fine.
Im a quick learner when it come to any problem with the help of forums and commom sense. i had an attempt at removal myself but found the weather and lack of correct tools a major problem.
What would you recommend to check first with regard to the fact it was all good before it went in? ie a course of action starting with the simplest thing first working up to my mechanic doesn't know what he's doing and balls it right up.
wont be able to get back under before tuesday at earliest.
Im near bournemouth bh24 area
Thanks again

It is the front that feels like it skipping under a turn of any amount

How far did you manage to drive it home without any problem?
