Hi,
Need a bit of urgent help/Advice
Bus wouldn't start this morning, the starter clicks but the engine won't turn over. Brickwerks previously advised it was on it's way out, so I'm reasonable confident that's the issue.
It used to take a couple of attempts to fire it up, then it was 3 or 4, now it won't start at all.
Bus is a 1982 1600 diesel LHD
We're camping on the 28th so i'm on the clock - my questions:
Will a 1900d starter fit?
Will a starter from a later van fit?
How hard is it to DIY the starter motor?
Does anyone have a starter I can buy (locally) that I can collect (will post in wanted)
Anyone locally know how to fit one that can help over the weekend or one night next week?
Thanks All in advance. Apologies if I've missed any pertinent info - I'm at work and not really supposed to be accessing forums, but "frell" it! My Bus needs me...

Re: 1600 Diesel Starter Issue
Hello,
any diesel starter should work, but the 1900d wasn't a standard engine on the T3, and some people have put adapters to use the starter from the original vehicle so I'd be very sure it is a T3 diesel starter.
Before you go changing the starter I would check the earth to the gearbox nose and the strap from the solenoid to the starter. The click you hear is the solenoid - the connection to the starter itself is often suspect so I'd check this first. Changing the starter is not at all difficult - two bolts, and disconnecting the live wires to the solenoid, but be very sure you disconnect the battery earth first.
Hope you manage to fix it soon
