None VW - Audi A4 warning light

Post by Mr Soft »

Hi all,

The Yellow 'Engine' light has come on on the wife's '06 Audi A4 2.0 Tdi 140. She says that she thinks there was a loss of power the last time she drove it & this time out the light has come on. Luckily she can take my works motor this evening! The manual says 'Emission Control System' does anyone have any idea if there is anything I can do to remedy this or does it need a garage/ dealership to sort?

Thanks for looking,

Bob

Hi Bob. As you know, modern electronics aren't my forte, but a quick Google came up with this. Looks like a visit to a friendly independent?

Perhaps here? (No recommendation, again just Googled)

Do not venture anywhere near a Audi or VW dealer or a VW/Audi "specialist" before having the fault codes read!

Do not go to any of the above if you've got an ounce of common sense and a spare 20 quid...that's how much it costs to buy you're own fault code reader!

If you do decide to go to a dealer or specialist you will be charged 40-50 quid just for the pleasure of being told your car has a fault...which you already know!

If you were near me I would do that for free...maybe someone else will offer the same help?

That year 2.0TDi may have a recall for the injectors and injector loom as well.

It sounds like it's dropping into 'Limp Mode' (who said women don't work in the German motor industry. ) get the faults read ... something like a boost sensor or the like.

Phone your local Audi dealer with your reg number.

My mates 06 2.0TDi wasn't on the recall list but it's all down to the VIN number so until you ask you'll not know.

How come they cost your company when they're a very common recall?

Thanks guys. Randomly I had an Engine Malfunction on the works M0nd30 yesterday as well! Engine, oil, temp seemed ok, so carried on home, no loss of power either. Started it this morning, no warning light & no problems, random! Can wait for next service unless it raises it's head again!

I don't really know (I only pay the bills) but I'll wager that the company sales market has a cheap get out clause. We bought cheap new ... ? VW/Audi have swapped back to Bosch injectors as of 2 years ago apparantly ?

I always advise against the 2.0Tdi motors unless they have had all 4 injectors replaced (with receipts OR have been recalled WITH relevant paperwork) On most a cambelt change is upwards of £1200 book price, £800 mate's rates.

It shouldn't matter how the cars were bought....if they've got faulty parts and those parts are a recall then they should should be changed free of charge.
I would phone VW Customer Care(0800 0833 920) and ask them because I've seen elsewhere where someone bought a Passat 2.0TDi from the auctions and ended up having to change 2 injectors which he paid for himself.
He then found out about the recall and phoned VW...they changed the other 2 injectors free of charge and refunded him the cost of the other 2 he'd changed himself!

You need to change your "mates" because VW charge £499 including the belt, tensioners and water pump!

Just ordered a VAG fault code reader for £10.99, £14 cheaper than the local independant specialist! I will post again when I find out the code/fault.

Thanks all for your help & advice.
