Soundproof/carpets
Like many of you, I have experienced some water in my front footwells. I am getting window removed and the body work looked at. I don't have rubber mats, just the original brown (wet) carpet. Under the carpet is some hardish multi coloured type stuff that's about 15-20mm think. This has also got wet and snapped/broken in places (almost like chipboard would when wet). Is this the original soundproofing stuff and can you but it? If you can't buy the same stuff, what should I get to replace it with when it's dry in the footwells.
Cheers!
Cheers!

Not original stuff in my experience at any rate. Sounds like a type of underlay. Under original rubber cab mat the driver and passenger floors have a thin (2-3mm) section of soundproof bitumen sort of stuff stuck to the floor.Nocker84 wrote:some hardish multi coloured type stuff that's about 15-20mm think.

I'm stripping the whole inside and painting red oxide on the floors then the original colour on top. What should I use to replace the soundproofing and then underlay, before putting the carpet back down.

Re: Soundproof/carpets
You can buy sticky back soundproofing mats. As for underlay I dunno - my van has the original VW rubber cab mat; I can't stand carpet up front, forever having to clean it else it goes manky....

Re: Soundproof/carpets
I've got the stuff your describing under the carpet in my multivan, maybe it was a caravelle or diesel spec thing?

I've always used stuff from Steve at noisekiller. Even bought soundproofing paint once. It did work but wasn't good enough for the application I had in mind.

NIt's a bit hit and miss that site with google translate. Find the section with a picture of the heater controls. It's in that part.

Not fitted to vans with the rubber cab mat then.

Re: Soundproof/carpets
I used a soundproofing product called FatMat to cover the whole inside if the van when it was completely empty. It cost around £300, bit made a hell of a difference, it even has insulation properties!

Re: Soundproof/carpets
Hi nocker
I have got Like a 10-15mm thk cork type stuff with a rubber underside on my caravelle and goes from the front and stops under the rear 3 person seat right where the engine bay starts. this is definitely original as the bottom of the matting fits perfectly into the grooves of t he steel floor. I would say from what I have seen that this was fitted to later caravelle's and multivans. If it isnt in to bad a state I would dry it out and duct tape it together as it is very good at stopping the road noise compared to when I had it stripped out.
have you got it under the floor in the back to or did they rip that out for conversion?
Your brother Chris.
p.s Il come take a look once I get of this "feck" heap of "pooh" in the north sea

Re: Soundproof/carpets
It's not in the back. The back has the original yellow and White flooring. So it's just the front footwells. Carpet then goes over at all including the arche.
