main beam dash light
Hi, i used to have a main beam light , then over the months it started fading and working intermittently and then packed up altogether! i've lived with it for a long time and have been told i'd need a complete new pod or circuit board to fix the problem, can anyone tell me if this is the case and if so how easy is it to get a replacement. 1984 1.9 df, cheers
Re: main beam dash light
Hi my high beam dash light died . I bought an led with flying leads on it from maplins and solders it onto the old LeD connectors . It was a bit bright so used .....wait for it ... the strap off some swimming goggles that were blue and cut a small square section out to make a filter that a dims the light down and b makes the lamp blue . This has worked perfectly well for the last 3 years and looks factory fitted to the casual observer . Probably no need for you to get a new pod . Hope this helps .

Yep, you just need an LED at about 15p each. You can get blue ones but a white one with a blue summat in front of it is fine. (as per ^^^) Try and get a standard brightness one, not the fancy high brightness type. Easy to fit, just 2 little legs to solder on. They only fit one way round. If you fit it the wrong way around it won't damage owt, it just won't work. If you look carefully inside them you can figure out which way round the original is and fit your new one the same way round. Take care around the ribbon type circuit "board" at the back of the instruments. It is easily damaged if you handle it at all roughly.

Re: main beam dash light
i see you have a 1984 van , blue led's wernt invented when these vans were new, and they were then too expensive when they were!
was your main beam lamp blue or yellow?
yellow it will be an led with resistor on the pcb
blue it will be a bulb with a blue cap also has a resistor but this is different to the led resitor
i can remember the values but you may damage the led on the bulb resistor!
see if you can get a 12v blue led and see if that works
