Westy Club Joker fabric

Post by janieh »

Hi All

I'm wondering if anyone knows where to find some of this grey fabric. I've already asked Peter Gunzl and he doesn't have any. I don't need loads, but would like to patch a hole that is developing.

you may well struggle to find material on a roll. may be lucky and score a ripped or broken trimmed part from a westy breaker.

i have tried to source material and failed. one club member i spoke with had chased it a few years before and went as far as speaking to folks on loom forums to have it remanufactured. it was too costly.

I am begining to get in the same boat on this.. I have some wear showing on the front seats and have been trying to source some material for repairs, but it's tricky, some bits i have sourced are too faded/worn.

I was looking at getting some covers to help preserve the original seats, has anyone used a company to make some 'made to measure' seat covers for front (ISRI)and rear?

I have just been recovering some westy joker seats, buddy and rock n roll, I will post up on here. It is so tricky to get original material that I went forces different approach as you will see on my thread. Someone will have you material, put wanted adds here and brickyard and ring all the breakers.

I had meant to reply to this but forgot. We were lucky and one of the websites we found had a small square of this fabric that we were able to use to do the patch. However, it does seem that generally it's practically impossible to find.

I also require the same fabric for my my drivers seat. I was contemplating getting it recovered but sounds like I will be struggling to source the correct material. Sorry to hijack your thread but if anybody is breaking a westy I would be interested in a good seat or a pair using this material.

Our front seats are showing wear, too - especially the drivers, where the base has worn into splits in a couple of the creases. Given how, umm, of it's era the material is, we'll be going for more tasteful material if and when it ever gets high in the priority list.

Specialist car trimmers exist - I know of one in Hemel Hempstead, if it's of use to anybody - and they should make easy work of doing the seats properly in good hardy material.

As far as the original material goes, Gunzl seem to list the armrest that goes on the wall, sliding door side, in what looks from the pic like the right material. Maybe that'd give you enough to do the repair with? I suspect that the unworn-ness of it would stand out a mile, though, from the rest of the original material. Oh, and it's €50...
