Diesel solinoid HELP! please

Post by VWGeoff »

Hi after having all my dash out for new servo, heater blower and wiper motor. I put it back (all the dash inc clocks) and now it wont start. Ive narrowed it down to solinoid. As it`s turning starter motor on key,but not starting. And asoon as I run a live wire to diesel pump solinoid it starts first time on key.

So Mines an Early 83 diesel has anyone know where on ignition or what colour the solinoid wire is please. Thanks Geoff :?

I`ve looked at it today there`s definetly one big plug on my 83 diesel. I havent counted the pins yet Max. But I had a thin brown wire with small spade on end. leading over to left of van across from fuse box area going into a heatshrink with another wire (not sure of colour blue grey and white I ?)

It`s an early diesel Max if that makes any difference. Just got to find the wire for diesel cut off solinoid on ignition barrel. I`m guessing that it`s this thin brown wire but where it goes on barrel your guess is as good as mine. Everything else is working accept fuel cutoff solinoid( that has to be hotwired battery to pump) ????
Or end up with flat battery.

Thanks Matey I`ll check glow plug amps tom. But I cant see it being that as it starts first time with a wire from battery to diesel cut off solinoid on diesel pump. So It`s never had glow plug probs yet and still hasn`t . This prob is a dahboard ignition problem after just having it all out. it seems to be wire on the diesel pump. Not sure enough amps are there to open it?
