When my alternator went, i bought a MkII golf gti alternator (cos it looked the same on the picture) and once i swapped the pulleys over works fine.
It didn't fit the original mounting bracket so i bought a bracket from an Audi 100 (again, cos it looked like it might work) and it's fit's perfectly :ok

The relays for intermittent wash wipe and headlamp warning (99 and 292 IIRC) are common to many cars across the VW / Audi / SEAT range.

I think the easiest thing you could do is get hold of a spreadsheet of all the T25 parts numbers and compare it with the other part numbers from other dubs and see if any of them ever match. Pretty easy in Excel. May even bring up some surprises. I wouldn't know where to get a list of part numbers though.

After checking out the Forums on Vagcat.com, their part number search feature will show you all models which have the same part number.

For example - 026903017AX is a 65A Alternator for a T25 1.9 - 2.1 (85 - 92)

A Vatcag search (http://www.vagcat.com/epc/find/?art=026903017AX)shows the part is also used in loads of other VW/AUDI's too.

I think this is very handy for when popping down the scrapyard,

Wow, that's a good find Kev :ok (and one most folk would never have thought of as the WBX exhaust is so "different" to a normal car system)
