Re: Leak
Do NOT buy the Just Kampers ones. You want as close to original as possible or it will leak and/or look terrible. Yes it might cost £10 or even £25 more for a better seal, but for a job that may only be done once in the vehicles life, there are no savings to be had in my view. VW Emporium have the right ones - with or without chrome locking trim. In fact, if you read through my WIKI article on repairing the lip, it does say all this anyway.

Glad it wasn't too bad. Did they treat the surface rust. If you use a silicone type sealer around spindles make sure it's an automotive one. The ordinary type can cause corrosion it seems.nathanwedge wrote:Windscreen seal finally done today and the good News is only slight surface rust ! Re: Leak
Seal changed at the weekend, no rot just a bit of very light surface rust all treated and new screen back in. It rained today and no leaks (fingers crossed) I've stuck a dehumidifier in for a couple of days to dry it all out. Cheers for the advice all.

Re: Leak
Once the seal is all in and its settled down, run round with the roofing mastic as I suggest in the WIKI. Makes the seal watertight then.

Re: Leak

If pics come up(fingers crossed) just had new seal fired in mine today. No rust. Thank God.
Now its fingers crossed that it was the seal that was the problem. I'm hoping so. I had exactly the same issue. Oh and thanks to MM for the seal link and advice.
