no longer installed in SONK, but resting on a pallet on the floor in the workshop, gave it up pretty readily, less than a day one person, everything undid, bar the fuel lines I cut and the transmission cooler pipes, I cut them too, otherwise just like it said in the Haynes Manual (thanks TMT :ok )
143k miles, service history says 3 cam belts no head gasket changes, used a little water and oil in the year I drove it, damp rocker cover gaskets, head seals dry, so plan is head gaskets and oil and water pumps and a valve seats and shims as she was a little tappety minimum , and hope we find nothing else to worry about Image

no it's destined for a 2wd single cab to be the work truck, take the strain off Edna so she can get metal work done before next summer and repaint her

single cab used to have a Tischer on it so rear end is very tidy, though it will be rat look at least initially, but with new running gear, fuel tank and lines, radiator, brakes and suspension as required as it was a 1.9 originally and has been off the road for 6 years

been planning to do this for nearly 18 months since mot ran out on the scooby just haven't had the time , finally got the car parked 5 foot from the workshop/tools and in between showers got on with it

Do the vids i put up help give you a better idea on what to expect with the EJ25? I lost a lot of smoothness in the gear changes once the engine was fitted. Its not impossible to get it perfect, but it's definitely made it less forgiving. It may just be the adapter that's installed, who knows. Hope it goes well for you. Better put a vid up of it driving once its all in :)

update Tuesday end of day:

Young Seth who works a couple of hours a week for me, age 14, helped out for a couple of hours this afternoon as it's his half term and we got the wings and bumper off and the dash is out and the loom is at our mercy, everything so far from the engine bay and forward is free and labelled and tucked back under the bonnet on top of the gearbox to keep dry for next spare hour or two. No pics I'm afraid as camera was back at the flat and batteries on charge but I bought some cheap Duracells off ebay for the next bit as I want to photograph a lot of the under dash stuff before taking any more off/out.

has anyone any experience of detonating unwanted airbags ? How dangerous is it really ? :lol: :lol: we have common sense and ppe and no wish to get hurt, but as I hope to never have an accident in an airbag vehicle (T3 maybe the only thing I drive going forward ) I am intrigued :idea

You don't have to set the airbags off, they are designed to be safely unbolted/unplugged. No 12v feed, no chance of detonation. If you find your ears ringing and you are covered in fine white dust:
1. Battery was still connected
2. Your Glock went off while inspecting the latest shipment :lol:

stripped the dash this afternoon had a spare hour

I just want to detonate an airbag to see what happens, just like when one had a .22 round and fancied hitting it with a hammer to see what happens :shock:

(do not try this at home obviously)

They make a bloody great mess! Best to screw it down to a pallet (steering wheel in mind) out the back of the works and run a good 20' of bell wire to fire it.
Don't forget to video it :wink:

I used to blow air bags up as part of a drink drive/road safety lectures I had to every year in the army, they dont half go bang and when you dont tell anyone that its gonna happen those half a sleep soon wake up and realise just how dangerous they are!

Really easy to wire up to blow, I used to get loads all different types!

ok finally the donor engine and recipient vehicle are only 6 feet apart :D

and the days are getting longer, there is evening time when it's light 8)
