Fan heater

Post by Nocker84 »

Hi, sorry for asking something that to many will make you think, "idiot"! The fan heater on the dash; there is a unit made up of three sections that comes down and through between the front seats to provide air in the rear. I am missing this piece and as the dash is brown I believe I need it in brown rather than black.
1 - what is this actually called?
2 - where can I get it?

Thanks

Danny

This ducting was installed in early caravelles.
you need the connecting duct to make it work as the standard blower cover will not fit the floor duct
generally available at VW shows with T25 traders. (£60 for the two ducts)

8 *251 259 135B 90V is the brown duct from the heater or as VW say..trim / for models without air duct / F 24-D-000 001>>
1 *254 255 501A is the RHD floor duct or air duct

Thanks for that it's a great help. I have a 1984 LHD westy hightop. Are the parts different for LHD and RHD?

And as kev has said they are handed with a cut out for the handbrake as you can see in the picky above, though you can get a rhd one andcut a bit out of the otherside and bond a bit over the open bit.

However, from experience the ducting is not that great. Had one in my Caravelle and most of the time it was warming the toes of non-existent rear passengers whilst all I got up front was an 'impression' of warmth. I removed it, fitted a heater cowl from a van without the ducting and at last got a decent amount of heat up front, including a quicker windscreen demist/thaw.

Cheers.
Will look it up and avoid butchering the existing one.
