Stuck with welding work on your van??- read this!!!

Post by Nice Dude »

Hi folks, I have been restoring by T25 for the last 12 months and have done all the work myself but when it comes to welding im no expert and being a bit of a self confessed perfectionist I wanted the body work to be right. I needed a bit of welding doing, rear quarter and arch, the typical 4 window frames had rotted away, floor pan due to front screen leaking and both front cab steps as normal and bits of places before it got worse. I did find a VW restorer an hour away from me but it was going to cost me £100 in trailer and fuel before work starts and they were not cheap.

Suprisingly, I found a mobile welder on eBay (Chris) who specialises in classis cars VW's etc so i gave him a call and gave him a run down of what i needed doing. I booked a day with Chris to come out to my home to do the work whilst I ordered new panels. Chris charges per the day for his labour and not per job which means you can get as many jobs done as time allows that day. Chris is a grafter, I had to force him to stop and take a break and eat the bacon butty my wife made him, he turns up on time when he said he would, tidies up after him and his standard of work is spot on. He doesnt cut corners on his work and offered to do additional plates that he found needed doing while he was there which was great. On top of that hes a nice bloke and allowed me to labour with him where I could to learn some new skills and understand how the job was done. I have now got all my welding work completed in 2 days and can move on to geting it painted. I would of been stuck without Chris to hand and will defo keep his number going forward, although I kind of hope I dont need to use him again on this van at least.

So, If you are like me and stuck getting welding work done for your project give Chris a shout on 07714653477 and take a look at his website too where you can see some of his work. http://www.dickinsonsrestorations.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Chris is based in Wigan but seems to travel a lot up and down the country to do jobs, you would need to check this with him I guess.

hope this helps someone out like it has for me

Thanks
Rob
