can anyone tell me how I can find out what my gearbox code is when the code itself is no longer readable due to corrosion.
It's a 2,1 wbx sr DoKa with rear diff lock.

Re: gearbox code
OK, have found out it's the only way to know apart from gearbox removal and counting!
Have managed to decipher 2 letters and this can only mean it's a AKG with a 32:7 ratio. I,ve been told that a gearbox with a 34:7 ratio would be a better option for towing a trailer up steep mountain roads!!
Do you experts agree with this???

Re: gearbox code
The lower diff ratio will in theory be better for pulling a trailer up hills....but if you change the rear diff ratio you also need to change the front to match...and crown wheel and pinion sets are very expensive and mean a complete stripped own and rebuild of the gear box and front diff...you can't just swap out the diffs as the crown wheel and pinion are matched pairs and will almost certainly die an early death if pairs are mixed...smaller wheels may be an easier option?

Try 3rd.

Re: gearbox code
Thanks for the responses!
I will be replacing both diffs, front ADH and rear AAN. Got a great deal from a Gent in Germany (if thats possible
) As for smaller wheels....i think once you've run 15" rrims with BFG AT's there's no going back to the standard set up! It just doesn't look the same!! (even if it does, mechanically make sense!)
The white sticker under the dash?? I'll check that out. Thx for the info!

Re: gearbox code
So how much are you spending to be able to up a hill in 4 th gear? I'm going the other way from 5.43 to 4.86 to drop the revs and save fuel!
