thanks, got the passenger side polished at the weekend no pics yet but should have soon, passenger door has very slight undulation in comparrison to the front and rear wings which you can discern from the reflection. I'll photo it all as there's no point hiding the boils and giving a false impression with something like this

i did paint a few items such as mirrors with a foam brush, all they needed was 2500 grit then polishing and they've come up great, so sometimes the roller isn't the only way.

another thing i didn't mention is 2" foam rollers, couldn't see them mentioned elsewhere, you can buy them from http://www.decoratingdirect.co.uk - very handy for narrow sections (A pillars for instance) and wheels....!

E D I T - i should add its a VW Corrado Vr6 - another happy corner of the VW fold but seeing some of the vans on here i'm formulating my next project which will be van orientated

Sorry if this has been asked here a thousand times, I tried searching but cannot seem to find any posts. I want to Rustoleum my van as close to original pain as possible so I dont have to do engine bay etc. My colour is 90D Pastel White, does anyone know of a chart or know the RUS2 colour equivalent?

Gave mine another coat today with roller so will post some pics over the next couple of days. The last coat I did I watered down by 20/30% and sprayed with a compresser. Finish was ok but never realy shined as well as hand rollering and getting a good coat took for ever. I sharnt bother using a sprayer again. I got my paint fron Andrews paint in Wolverhampton. They have a huge range of colors. HUNDREDS!! the problem is that the color books Rustolium use cost the shop £300 ish each which it why they dont send them out! Realy if you want a close match you need to go in to the local rustolium dealer and see the chart book for yourself.Very different to the wall chart you somtimes see. Andrew's are very helpfull but cant mix at there premise at the mo so you have to go and pick it up yourself or get it posted.

I,m interested in trying this on my white T25 but I have a largeish dent in n/s rear and a buckle in mid panel o/s plus I,m wondering how warm it needs to be outside to try it (no garage) the dent in rear is too big to fill and can,t get at it from inside to try and push it out .
I,m hoping to do it two tone with a Ivory top and Burgundy/Maroon on lower part .

Trunkster, your findings regarding spraying Rustoleum do not surprise me. It is much better suited to application with a roller (or even brush). I've seen a few attempt putting it through a gun and also given up. Its possible to get a reasonable finish but I honestly can't see the point in having to do so much masking (and subsequent cleaning of equipment) when if you get the mix right, the finish with a roller is often remarkable.

I've said it many times but don't paint with too thick a mix or when the weather is hot or the flow characteristics are lost and it'll look textured, and don't paint in freezing weather or it will 'bloom' the paint. April/May is still (in my view) the best time to do this outdoors providing it is dry. You can do it later in the year too providing you watch the weather forecast and start early before flying monsters get going.

Hopefully I can set up a stand at next years Back2basics showing what is involved and answering any questions - it was too short notice for this year. My own van which was rollered some 6 years ago now (yes its really that long ago) has held up well but I've had at least one collision since, some rot around a sliding window, and I need to swap some panels out and get the whole vehicle straight again. Plan is to attack it next year and go for a two-tone blue look. Roller naturally.

I'd like to ask what colour is Marlin blue?
Silly question I know but on a PC screen its a totally diffent from my smart phone.
Is it anything like the new citreon D3 blue?
Im looking for a pale blue.

I am new to this forum. Hello everyone!

I live in France and just finished re-painting my VW 181 using the Rustoleum Roller Painting Video DVD I bought from SickFly Video.
I carefully read all the threads and forums about roller painting with Combicolor paint.
I applied 3 coats, carefully flatening out in between the layers. The result is not that bad. A bit of orange peeling effect though, which might be reduced with a final polishing.

Overall, the result is ok, but I do have a real issue: the paint job is not robust enough, i.e. even a tiny little impact (a small branch, the tip of a nail, etc..) is taking off the paint. My car is not a show car, I want to use it daily without being afraid of seeing all the paint coming off

Did anyone experience the same issue?

What kind of Varnish can I apply on top of my paint (I am looking for something strong, which can be applied with a Roller, and which wiil not turn yellow over time).

I am stuck, so any help welcome... please!

PS: I painted areas in metal, in fiber, with and without a Primer. The result is the same everywhere: the slightest shock takes the paint away.

It does take time for the paint to fully harden and also if the vehicle wasn't fully prepped, the paint will not bond properly. Can't say I've experienced the problem you describe. Normally its because of the above.

I spent quite some time on the prep, and the paint has been drying for weeks...
Well, I will try to spend some more money on a good varnish.. Any recommendation?
