Re: how low is your sump??
Lloyd, I'd do it myself I think. What kits are available from the states then?
E D I T. Have just googled and found Eurospec. They've got some amazing stuff. Not cheap though.
Cheers

A bit spendy, and it looks like you have a different bell housing to bolt on. I've asked on the samba what other options are available

Re: how low is your sump??
I think the issue will be that when the engine is turned 15 degrees all the engine mounts and carrier bars will be in the wrong place. I would say he only needs the bars and mounts, I'm having a little search for him to see what is available. Obviously miles better if mounts can be found to match the kep adapter, haven't found any yet though

Re: how low is your sump??
maybe not too usefull at this moment but the construction of suitable mountings is to me the easiest part of these conversions, its the lecky side that would be the prob.
never knew it was that low, see you tues

Re: how low is your sump??
That's fantastic, thanks
I've emailed Eurospec to see if they'll sell me the bars separately.
Would save a lot of messing about.

Re: how low is your sump??
Right, just made some measurements compared to a standard westy using 2 reference points, centre of pulley and centre of gearbox drain plug. I realise this isnt particularly scientific
My drivetrain runs out by 50mm downwards. And just to add insult to injury, it's out left to right by 35mm.

Re: how low is your sump??
Centre of pulley is a pretty good reference point, it'll always be in the same place no matter what the engine angle.
Bit weird on the left to right thing? Is that the gearbox too, or just the puppy measurement? How much of the 50mm lower is your ride height? Or have you measured up to a reference point?
Have you had a reply from Kennedy?

Re: how low is your sump??
Just to clarify I've compared mine to a standard westy. My ride height is 45mm lower.
Measuring from centre of gearbox plug and taking my 45mm off that, it's 40mm lower there.
Measuring from centre of pulley and taking off my 45mm, it's 90mm lower.
This means it's worse than I thought:-)
I know these are crude measurements, but it's quite clear that the whole drivetrain is running out by 90mm from gearbox nose mount to pulley position.

Re: how low is your sump??
How has the gearbox ended up being lower? Has he spaced it down to fit your intercooler?

No the nose mount is ok. Just runs downhill from there

Re: how low is your sump??
this is the eurospec stuff. All bolt on. Uses a bellhousing from the mexican bay made up to 97, where they used a 1.8 golf engine. It was also mounted at 15 degrees, so is perfect really.
still waiting to find out if they'll sell the bars on there own.
Other option is to stick with the kennedy and make some new bars, but I have no experience at this. I guess when I get the engine in the right position, I can make some templates out of something and get someone to make a mount from that.
I'm no mechanic, but even I could position the engine correctly, using only a basic tape measure I can see that the engine is totally out of alignment

Probably couldn't get under the van to measure it accurately

That's above and beyond, thanks

A couple of peeps on here have kindly offered to have a look see whilst I'm out and about next week, I'm also having some bushes done at Brickwerks, so I'm sure they'll be some pointing and laughing there. When I get back, i'll get started on a masterplan to recify it.
Thanks everyone for your help/advice it's been invaluable
