Coachman conversion.......but they never did them?

Post by Sleedale »

I know someone posted on here about a T25 coachman conversion, and I did pm them but so far no reply. So, our T25 is apparently a coachman conversion, on some of the repair receipts etc it says Coachman, so I contacted Coachman (caravan people) and they never did camper conversions, apparently.
So, who did? I have hunted on the net and found one photo of the interior of one which is exactly the same as ours and the tiny bit of info I read described some of the interior details, again the same. I would love to find out who did convert it and find out what it should be like etc, not that I'm desperate to keep it original. For example, it had a switch in the back to turn the radio off, one to turn the TV off ( I have the TV which probably is the original) and the heater control is there also. Sadly the propex heater, which was mounted under the van had died so its been removed, and the radio switch in the back was a pain cos I had to remember to turn it on before I set off, and turn it off when we stopped, or the battery would suffer! So it's been rewired and the space for the TV has a 12 volt socket but I haven't tried it. The van also has a 12 v socket on the water take filler inlet and a strange looking metal vent type thing, which may have been for a water heater?
Anyhow, enough rambling, any ideas gratefully received.
Oh and three of the windows leak so the threads on glass and seals will be very useful :ok

It could be that you have a Cavalier Coachman Classic ?
I have a magazine article here that has a small amount of info about this T25 model.
I will scan it in the next day or so and post you a link to it.
Cheers,
Dave

Thank you, that will be great. Just checked online and the company folded in May this year! Shame, I would have emailed them. Looking forward to reading. :ok

Here you go:

http://www.autohomes.vwt25camper.info/J ... icleWM.pdf" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

Mentions Cavalier Coachman from Felixstowe on page 401.

Also has info on Autohomes Kamper, Autosleeper VT20, Devon Sunrise, Holdsworth Villa and and Diamond RV Autocruiser.

Cheers Dave, made interesting reading :) still not sure if that would be ours but it makes sense and as it certainly isn't a Coachman, as in caravan people conversion, this seems to be the most likely. We do like it, it suits us fine, a huge rear storage above the seats and a cute 3 locker storage of the front etc etc and seems quite well made. I'm sure it will need work as we go on, but it seems ok so far. Thanks once again :ok

If you search Cavalier Coachman on google images it comes up with some Bedford CF conversions they did and if you click on the images it will take you to the websites where there is a bit more info. Maybe you can spot some similarities between these conversions and yours ?

The Cavalier caravan was manufactured by Estuary Caravans in Walton Avenue in Felixstowe (it was next door to an old girlfriends of mine) but they closed around 1980. (Claim in by former workers at present due to asbestos diseases!) I don't remember them doing vans though - they must have been a by-product as there used to be lines of caravans but never saw any vans. Cavalier caravans had a good reputation - mainly export.

Thanks again Dave
Can't find anything that looks like ours inside, but then these vans do tend to get changed around a bit. Not to worry, ill keep hunting and i am now hunting for something to cover the front seats. It came with almost new van seat covers which worked fine but I don't like the look! So I took them off and the seats underneath, which look original, are a bit of a mess!

Just looked at the pdf link - Cavalier Coachman van was done in '82/'83 so must have been a resurrected company out of the ashes of Estuary Caravans.
