Hello, we will be in france next so I want to carry some spare bulbs.

having looked in here I see that I should upgrade my headlights to halogens, and maybe sides to leds.

has anyone a full spec list of bulb codes I can use?

Also, does anyone know of led replacements for interior lights?

Halford's sell complete bulb kits. Has every lamp your van is fitted with in it. This is obviously only applicable if there has been no 'upgrades' so I'd leave that till you get back. Don't forget your warning triangle, hi-viz jackets (I think) and headlight beam deflectors too.

Also, if you're going to upgrade the bulbs, do the relay mod 1st, otherwise you will melt your light switch as all of the current passes through it.

I don't think this is an issue unless you fit the illegal 100/80 or 130/90 Watt H4's
Thats not to say the relay mod isn't necessay, fitting a relay will definately minimise the voltage drop at the bulbs and give you a substantial performance improvement over standard.

I bought some osram nightbreaker plus H4 to replace the exsisting H4 halogens, when I removed the old bulb it has a round base and the new osrams have 3 prongs. Both say H4, are the interchangeable or have I bought the wrong bulb?

No mate....what you have are a HYBRED....a H4 bulb but with fitted with the old round base normally associated with old tungsten 'round' headlamp bulbs. These Hybreds are used so they fit old style (non halogen) lamps. Very much a compromise.....

These were a popular choice for owners who had early tungstem bulb lamps but wanted the whiter brigher light given from a H4 bulb.
However, even though these do improve the brightness of older setups it is generally recommended that proper H4 lamps are used as they will give a more defined and brighter pattern. Obviously in conjunction with 'Proper' H4 bulbs like the Osram Nighbreakers.

Proper H4 Hella replacement lamps say 'H4' on the lens as do most other makes.

Curiously, it seems that you are not required by law to carry spare bulbs in France, simply that you cannot proceed with any bulbs out.

similar with the breathalyser, you are required to carry one, but advised to carry two (or more) because if you only carry one, and you use it, and you are still ok to drive, you still can't legally go anywhere because you no longer have a breathalyser ...
