Eberspacher D2 or D4?

Post by ed_crouch »

Hi all, couldnt find the answer in the search, so here goes:

I'm considering ditching the heat exchangers for a few reasons, and putting the money towards an Eberspacher and using it as a SOLE heat source; they are approved for use while driving. Now I realise I'm in a petrol-not-diesel situation here, but would fab a small diesel tank as required. Prolly only need 2 - 3 gallons?

Question is, should I go for an Airtronic D2 or a D4?

is the D2's 2.2kW enough to keep the screen clear and us warm in the cab on a cold day? Is it enough to keep the van warm when camped?

Can anyone shed any light on this?

Thankyou,

Ed.

I used a D2 in mine for supplementary heat whilst driving and it worked quite well along side the heat exchangers. Then when the heat exchangers packed up I piped it through the ducting so it would clear the screen, which it did but wasn't powerful enough to warn the van much at the same time and my feet were always freezing.
Martin.

Diesel is an engine not a fuel.

I liked camping so much I went full time.

Webasto Airtop HL32 is the ideal size for covering both (3.2Kw) - it would allow for two outlets, one for the screen and one for the rear without running out of heat. The 2Kw models are OK just for the back but if you want windscreen clearing/defrosting at the same time they are slower acting especially if you have a high top.
I run a HL32 under the rear seat of mine with the ability to direct the heat into the cab directly to assist with a quick defrost before I get into the van.
The HL32 is an older model so unlike the newer ones it only has two heat settings - full and half but quite frankly that is sufficient.

All the suitable ranges of Eberspachers and Webastos have both diesel and petrol models so you are not having to have a separate diesel tank.
